The practice of Yoga is estimated to have started in India around five thousand years ago. In recent years it has been gaining more popularity in western society. A lot of people have started practicing yoga to strengthen not only their bodies, but their minds as well. Since the pairing of yoga and cannabis goes back to almost the beginning, we decided to explore the world of CBD and yoga.

Let’s explore what yoga and CBD are, and how they can work together.

What is Yoga?

Yoga is the Hindu practice of health and spirituality. Yoga means unity, of the higher and lower self, or union with god etc. It was founded around the second century BC.

The type of yoga that has become popular today is Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is the system of bodily postures. This yoga is sometimes referred to as meditative movement practices. Combining three different types of yoga, physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dyana).

There haven’t been many studies on the health benefits of yoga. But research shows that it could help with a variety of things.

  1. It can improve overall health by supporting healthy habits, relieving stress and anxiety, aiding in sleep, and balance
  2. Relieve menopause symptoms
  3. Relieving lower-back and neck pain
  4. Helping people lose weight

For those who are just starting out there are great beginners courses that can help ease you into the practice. And no you don’t have to be super flexible to start, that comes in time.

What is CBD?

CBD is a cannabinoid that is extracted from the cannabis plant. Unlike its counterpart THC, it does not contain psychoactive properties. This means that it has the same effects like relaxation and relief from discomfort, without getting you high.

CBD works by binding to endocannabinoids in our systems.

CBD has been shown to reduce inflammation. It can help with sleep and anxiety. It is also an FDA approved ingredient in a drug to help with epilepsy. There are still more studies that need to be done in order to truly understand all that CBD can do.

In order for CBD to be legal it can not contain more than 0.03% THC, and must be derived from the hemp plant. Hemp has an extremely high concentration of CBD and is very low in THC. This allows processors to be able to obtain more CBD with little to know THC.

CBD is extracted in many different ways. The most popular are CO2 method and the solvent method. The CO2 method is more expensive as far as equipment but it’s safer and yields better results.

It’s important when looking for a CBD supplier to add to your yoga routine that you find one that provides a certificate of analysis for all products. To ensure your product is legal and contains the stated amount of CBD.

CBD & Yoga

As stated in the beginning yoga and cannabis have been paired together for thousands of years. It’s mentioned in the Vedas which is the Hindu spiritual text. But since CBD is starting to become popular we are seeing more and more people adding it into their daily routines. We know that it’s anti-inflammatory properties are great post workout, so adding into a yoga routine can help with any muscle soreness afterwards.

But there are more ways you can benefit by pairing CBD and yoga. CBD may help with stress relief and anxiety. Adding an oil or gummy into your routine before you meditate can put you in a relaxed state. This can make it easier to clear your mind in the beginning of your meditation which is sometimes challenging to do.

There is a yoga routine that incorporates CBD. It suggests using a tincture, and meditating in the corpse pose for 15-20 minutes to give the cbd time to take effect.

Yoga is used to help create balance in the mind, and CBD is used to help balance the body. Pairing these two together can help with your overall balance and relaxation.
